So you’ve prayed… and prayed… and prayed… and prayed! But, you haven’t seen any change.

The job is still bad. Your child is still in that terrible place. Your spouse hasn’t come around. You’re still confused as to which direction to take. That phone call hasn’t come yet. Your family is still fighting. That health issue is still there.

You wonder if God has forgotten. Has He heard your cry… your prayers? Does He care? Does He see? Is He going to move?

Did you know that some biblical characters experienced the same thing? Let’s see… It took 25 years for God to fulfill His promise of a son to Abraham. And it was 14 years from the time Joseph was sold as a slave until he became the second in command in Egypt. From the time David was anointed as King of Israel until he usurped the throne, 15 years had passed. And during the in-between years, he killed Goliath, was almost killed by Saul, fled his home and lived in a cave, and fought many battles.

And here’s another one… the Israelites were driven from their homeland and became captives in Babylon for 70 years.

Had God forgotten them? NO!

Here are some things we need to keep in mind when we ask God to intervene…

God NEVER forgets us!

During the time of the Israelites’ captivity, God sent them word by way of Isaiah the prophet. This is what He said: “Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would NOT forget you” (Isaiah 49:15)!

For centuries, the Israelites had waited for their promised Messiah. They went through many hardships: 400 years in Egypt, 40 years in the wilderness, battles (some they won, others they lost), captivity (twice), prophetic messages, and 400 years of silence (no word from God, no visions, no angels, nothing). By the first century, Israel was under Roman rule.

Then we read in Romans 5:8: “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” You see, God made good on His promise… He did bring His Messiah, His deliverer. He hadn’t forgotten.

So, has God forgotten your plight? NO!

God is SOVEREIGN!

The word sovereign means, “having supreme rank, power and authority.” God is in control! He’s got this! You and I do not need to worry. We can sleep at night knowing that God is always taking care of things.

Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

God is sovereign over YOU and over YOUR SITUATION. Isn’t this good news?

God’s TIMING is perfect!

While the Israelites wanted their Messiah to come (that day), Paul writes: “But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law” (Galatians 4:4)

God has a purpose and a time for everything. So while you think today is the day for the answer to come, God may not agree. His timing is perfect. At just the right time, He will do what He said He will do.

So, as you wait, you may want to adopt the lyrics to John Waller’s song, While I’m waiting

I’m waiting
I’m waiting on you, Lord
And I am hopeful.
Though it is painful
But patiently I will wait
I will move ahead bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience
While I’m waiting
I will serve you while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will not faint
I’ll be running the race
Even while I’m waiting
I’m waiting on you Lord
And I am peaceful
I’m waiting on you Lord
Though it’s not easy
But faithfully I will wait
Yes, I will wait.

Blessings,
