Think about what’s going on in your life right now. What troubles are surfacing? What difficulties are you faced with?

As you think about these things, fill in the blank with your own word or phrase:

            God is BIGGER than _________________________________________!

Do you believe it? Do you believe that God is BIGGER than anything you are up against?

The ancient Book of Job is a fascinating read. And a true story! Job, deemed a man of God who walked with great integrity (Job 1:1), lost everything – his children, his servants, his livestock, and his health.

After all this tragedy, listen to what he told his friends about his God: “He does great things too marvelous to understand. He performs countless miracles” (Job 9:10).

Job couldn’t stop talking about God’s wonders and miracles. He believed even if he didn’t understand His ways.

Boy, I’m thinking I have a lot to learn when circumstances become overwhelming. How about you?

So, let’s talk about miracles for a minute. Obviously, we know that God did some amazing things in Scripture. But, do you believe that God still does miracles today? Do you believe God reveals Himself through miracles in the 21st century? Or for that matter, in your life?

John writes: “These [the mighty works and miracles of Jesus] are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name” (John 20:31).

Here’s my take from that verse: miracles show us God. They reveal His power, His authority, and His majesty. They also show us just how BIG He is.

This alone tells me that God still does miracles today. He wants us to know how big He really is.

So, how big is your God?

Let’s observe the miracle of Jesus walking on the water – Mark 6:45-51. You may want to read this for yourself before continuing on.imagescaoiwdex_thumb

We love this story, don’t we? Doesn’t it show us the full capacity of His power?

He is COMMANDER! Commander over everything, including the sea!

When we witness Jesus’ miracles, we are seeing God.

On this particular night, the disciples were up against some huge obstacles: darkness, a fierce storm, and fear. Some of the disciples were life-long fishermen. And the Sea of Galilee, known for its unexpected and violent storms, was the place they spent long days and nights working. They were used to sailing on this lake and, no doubt, had encountered many storms. Somehow though, I wonder if this one, on this night, was especially horrible—more ferocious than previous storms.

John’s rendering of this story states: “A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough” (John 6:18). In other words, it was BAD!

And then Jesus showed up in full glory! It doesn’t get any better than Him walking on the water.

If I had to choose a word to describe Jesus from this miracle, it might be limitless.

So, here’s a question to ponder. What are you focusing on? Are you focusing on the giants—the obstacles—in front of you?  Or are you focusing on the miracles of God? By turning our attention to the latter, we begin to see the limitless power of our God.

I’ve been praying for some loved ones for a long time. And believe me when I say that it can get discouraging. I see them choosing to walk apart from God. I see their chains. They’ve chosen slavery over freedom. My heart breaks because I know what they need.

They need JESUS commanding their boat.

But focusing on this miracle today reminded me that anything is possible with God. Watching Jesus walk on the water and calm the storm in the sea and in the hearts of His disciples, revived hope in my spirit again.  He has a plan for their lives and when it’s executed, it will be grand.

My God really is BIGGER…

Do you believe His miracles? Do you believe He is BIGGER than your situation?

So here’s my challenge to you:

            FOCUS ON ONE MIRACLE TODAY!

And then when you’ve done that, fill in the blank again and say it out loud with absolute belief…

            God is BIGGER than _________________________________________!

May God cause our eyes to open and our hearts to respond to His limitless power.
