After speaking at a women’s conference several years ago, a lady approached me. She told me of the troubles in her marriage and that, prior to the conference, she had planned on returning home and filing for divorce.

The night she arrived at the conference, she looked around at a bunch of women – women who seemed to have it all together. No one could understand the torment in her heart. Every life was perfect.

But at the conclusion of the weekend, she realized that no one was perfect – everyone had flaws and imperfect lives. She vowed to return home and work on her marriage rather than to give up.

Something tells me that you can relate to this woman. I know I can. As I look into an uncertain future and glare into the cracks in my life, I know that I’m not alone.

I may be writing this post, but my life is far from perfect.

Sometimes I feel like a failure. Other times, I struggle to make sense of what has gone so wrong. Life certainly has not gone as I had planned.

Like you, I need something to get me through today. And I know just what can do that…

The promises of God!

Here are 5 promises to get you through today…

1. Strength!

I’ve often wondered how the early believers made it through intense persecution. How could they keep the faith and not give up? How could Paul keep going on despite many trials? How did he find contentment in every situation (Philippians 4:11)?

Because God promised strength

Here’s what the prophet Habakkuk says: “The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights” (Habakkuk 3:19).

Strength is what God gives to us in the middle of our situation.

His strength allows us to persevere, remain grounded, and keeps us from losing faith. It gives us HOPE.

2. Power!

When things are difficult, we often feel weak and depleted. Physical illness, emotional stress, spiritual warfare, and just plain ole’ heartache can wipe us out.

The Apostle Paul was weak, too. He mentions it in 2 Corinthians 12. In his letter to the Church at Corinth, he says that Satan was tormenting him. It was so severe that he called it a thorn in the flesh. We don’t know what Paul was dealing with, but we can be certain it was horrible.

In fact, he pleaded with God three times to take it away. Listen to what God says to Paul: “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

The greatest power we get is in the midst of our weakness.

God gives us power to handle it, power to go on, and power to overcome.

His power is awesome!

3. Help!

We were never meant to go through life on our own. We need help. We need people by our side extending an arm to help us.

But more than people, we need God’s help. We simply cannot run this race alone. Nor were we created to.

Our biblical patriarchs sang these words as they ascended the hill to Jerusalem: “I look to the mountains – does my help come from there? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2)

King David said: “He is our help and our shield” (Psalm 33:20).

We often look to people, resources, and experiences for help. Those things can give us some help, but God has promised us His perfect help.

He promises to help us take the next step, lift us up when we fall, and guide through this maze of confusion.

His help is the BEST. Have you asked Him today for help?

4. God’s presence!

The orphan child feels all alone. The mother who just buried her son feels isolated. The pastor who is pushed out by his congregation feels abandoned. The father who just lost his job feels the sting of loneliness.

Loneliness is a devastating facet of life. No one to turn to! No one to share your day with! No one to walk beside!

I think all of us know some form of lonesomeness.

But here’s a promise that stands strong…

God is ALWAYS with us!

The writer of Hebrews quotes God: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

This means that God is with us when our loved ones leave, our friends betray us, our life takes an unexpected turn, and our circumstances become daunting.

5. Protection!

This is one of the most comforting promises.

As believers, we are always pursued by God’s greatest enemy: Satan. But, God promises to protect us.

His protection comes in many forms: angels (Psalm 91:10-11), His eyes (Psalm 121:5-8), His wings (Exodus 19:4), His arms (Isaiah 40:11), His Name (Proverbs 18:10), His Word (John 17:14)

Does this show you how much your God loves you?

He protects you from abandoning your faith when things get bad. He protects you from reckless behavior. And He protects you from Satan’s greatest wrath.

There are many more promises in Scripture to help us get through today, but I thought these were a good start. I may continue this theme in another post with more promises.

Hold tight to these promises! They are for you! They are for today!

You can get through it! God promises!

Have a blessed day,
